Veterans Benefits Timetable (After Separation)
  • Within 90 Days One-Time Dental Treatment:
    The VA provides one-time separation dental care for certain service-connected dental conditions, if a certification was given by the service department that a complete dental examination was not completed within 90 days of release. 38 CFR 17.123(B)(C)
  • 120 Days-Veterans Group Life Insurance:
    SGLI may be converted to a 5-year renewable term policy. 38 CFR 8.0(a)(2)
  • 1-Year-Appeal to Board of Veterans Appeals:
    A veteran has one year from the date of receipt of a notice of decision to disagree with the VA and file an appeal. Title 38 USC 7105, 38 CFR 19.33
  • 1 Year-Reemployment:
    Apply to your former employer for reemployment or contact the Department of Veterans' Affairs or the Office of Veterans Reemployment Right of the U.S. Department of Labor. FS 295.09
  • 2 Years-Insurance:
    Life insurance may be available for service-connected veterans. Title 38, Sec. 1922

  • Limited Time-Employment Compensation:
    The amount of benefit and payment period varies among states. Visit your local Job Service Office. Veteran must Complete the first term of obligated service under honorable conditions or be released at the convenience of the government to be eligible.
  • 10 Years-New GI Bill(Chapter 30):
    Provides financial assistance to honorable discharged veterans who enlisted after 6/30/85. 38 CFR 21.7042(a)
  • 10 Years-Selected Reserve Educational Assistance Program (Chapter 1606):
    For members of the Selected Reserve who enlisted or reenlist for six years between 7-1-85 and 6-30-88. Program is available only for college-level training. Benefits are not for graduate level courses. 38 CFR 21.7042(b)
  • 12 Years-Vocational Rehabilitation:
    As part of a rehabilitation program for service-connected disabled veterans, rated at 20% or more and having a serious, employment-related handicap, the VA may pay tuition, books, expenses, and a monthly living allowance.38 CFR 21.40
  • No Time Limit-GI Home Loan Guarantee:
    The VA may guarantee part of your loan for the purchase of a home, manufactured home or condominium. 38 CRF SEC.36, Title 38 USC 3702
  • No Time Limit-Medical Care:
    To the extent resources and facilities are available, the VA provides hospital care covering the full range of medical services to eligible veterans pursuant to U.S. Code 38 CFR 17.47.
  • No Time Limit-- Employment:
    Assistance is available in finding employment in the private and public sector. For further information contact theState Employment Service.
