Florida Honors and Remembers
our POW/MIA's

Gov Jeb Bush signed a bill that will fly a POW/MIA flag at every one of the 72 rest stops in the state.  It will also place a plaque at each rest stop to indicate Florida's appreciation of the sacrifices of these men and women, and their families.

The first ceremonial flag raising and unveiling of the plaque was
10 am, Wednesday, 20 Sept 2000
at Rest stop 2B, I-275
north of the Skyway Bridge ("fishing pier rest area")
at St Petersburg

The light of freedom still burns brightly in our world today because of the service and sacrifice of America’s men and women in uniform.

Our Nation’s servicemen and women have fought the forces of tyranny and won victories for liberty, human dignity, and the ideals of democracy.

We remember, with profound gratitude, those who suffered captivity and those whose fate remains unknown.

We also honor and pay tribute to those valiant families of our servicemen and women who remain missing  -- families who have had to suffer not only the absence of their loved ones, but also the uncertainty of their fate.

We, the citizens of Florida commit that:

“You Shall Not Be Forgotten.”
