Domiciliary Care
Robert H. Jenkins, Jr. Veterans' Domiciliary Home of Florida
Located in Lake City, our home provides care to honorably discharged veterans.
   Veterans must be in need of Assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADL)- i.e., grooming, medications, feeding, or food preparation due to disease or disability. 1-year resident of Florida (at time of application). Current information is available through the office of the Admissions Coordinator at the Domiciliary or from  any County Veteran Service Office, or FDVA offices.

Purpose
To provide care on an ambulatory self-care basis for veterans disabled by age or disease who are not in need of acute hospitalization and who do not need the skilled nursing services provided in a nursing home.
Eligibility
Admission eligibility requirements include being an honorably discharged veteran, 1 year resident of the State of Florida (at time of application), must be infirmed by age or disease and/or incapable of earning a living. Those who by reason of disability through incapability of earning a living must be adjudicated permanently and totally disabled by Social Security Administration or the Veterans Administration (VA), not in need of a Nursing Home, Hospital, or Hospice Care.

Admissions Criteria

(1) The veteran must be at least 18 years of age requiring assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as eating, dressing, bathing, grooming, toileting, transferring and ambulating.

(2) an honorably discharged veteran as defined in Chapter 1.01 (14) Florida Statutes.

(3) a resident of Florida and have resided in Florida for one year prior to admission.

(4) free from communicable disease, chronic inebriation, dementia or active mental illness and/or violent behavior unless controllable by medication.

(5) capable of self-preservation with assistance from staff in an emergency involving evacuation of the facility.

(6) represented by a legal guardian if determined to be incapacitated pursuant to Chapter 744, Florida Statute.
